AAMI Golden Slipper Day is the pinnacle of Autumn Racing fashion. The day features the finals of the Myer Fashions on the Field contest as well as the final for the National Young Designer Awards. In all, Sydney Turf Club and its generous partners have offered a prize pool of $75,000 for the best dressed on course and for Sydney’s up-and-coming designers.

Some of the Golden Slipper Festival’s best-dressed celebrities have lent their hottest fashion tips for the biggest day in Sydney racing.

Fashion is all about dressing elegantly this season, with hemlines lowered in fabrics such as wools and heavy silks. Hosiery is also very important this season – from colours to prints and textures. Black patent accessories with metal hardware (i.e. shoes and handbags) also help to complete the look.

There are a few key trends for this autumn that need to be adhered to with total or some gusto! Think jewel colours: pink sapphire, turquoise, emerald, black onyx. Yes bold, plain, unadulterated and remember jewels sparkle so make it shine! Match these with naturals sand and taupe. Then think 50’s and 60’s prom and you have the look.

I like the pill box variety with felt trim for an autumn touch. As it is getting a little colder, opt for a cute jacket, cape or bolero which ties in with your outfit. Coloured and textured tights can be utilised on colder race days and add an extra edge to your attire and finally, patent accessories are HUGE at the moment - a great bag or belt in this look is a key trend of the season.

You can't go wrong in classic black and white. You can make black and white exciting by playing around with different textures in your outfit. Mix velvets with leathers and soften them up by teaming them with flowing printed silks and feathers. Don't stop at the dress when dressing for this year’s Golden Slipper; think of items that could transform the dress into an outfit. Maybe add a great waist belt. A statement headpiece is a must and slip on some lace or leather gloves. Take the chance to wear things you may not be able to wear everyday!
